You might know that Ingeborg and I are passionate about supporting independent films. Two years ago, we proudly served as executive producers for Sea Sparkle, a film that captured hearts at the Berlinale in 2023. It was selected to open the 'Generation Kplus' competition, where it received a special mention –the first of many awards at festivals such as BUFF Malmö, Barnefilmfestivalen Kristiansand, and Młode Horyzonty Festiwal.
Today, we're thrilled to announce that KÖLN 75 will also have its world premiere at the Berlinale! This film tells the incredible true story of Vera Brandes, who, at just 18 years old, organized the legendary Köln Concert by jazz icon Keith Jarrett in 1975. It was a whirlwind of challenges, with seemingly everything going wrong. Yet, against all odds, the concert took place, and the resulting recording became the bestselling solo album in jazz history and the bestselling solo piano album in any genre.
This story resonated deeply with us. Ingeborg and I have faced our share of doubters, hearing 'you don't have enough experience to realize your crazy ideas' more times than we can count. Our successful entrepreneurial journey has inspired numerous creative individuals striving to make their dreams a reality. We invested in KÖLN 75 because we believe Vera Brandes' story will have the same powerful impact on a much wider scale. It's a testament to the human spirit, reminding us that even in the face of adversity, anything is possible.
KÖLN 75 is written and directed by Ido Fluk. Mala Emde brilliantly embodies the character of Vera Brandes, while John Magaro takes on the iconic role of Keith Jarrett. You might remember him from his roles in acclaimed films such as Past Lives (FFG 2023) and First Cow (FFG 2020).
